PART 3: The Rest Of The Best

Considering the RYPE blog is trying to stay (semi) clean and presentable we'll save everyone the details of the rest of the Halloween weekend, but no worries my little star-babies, we never miss out on a good picture post! See you all on November 26th and always remember, RYPE Lyfe is the RIGHT Lyfe for meeee!

Good lookin' people pretending to be even better lookin' people. Clever.

They WILL steal your booty (feel free to take that however you wish.)

Lame, neither of them would even dress up!

They didn't lose the kitchen utensils or hammer all night! True team players!

What you got? (Cats on Cats on Cats)

(on Cats on Cats On Cats....)

She thought she saw a ghost... and I'm pretty sure she did.

Faux Fur Friends

Celebrity spotting, guess who

There always comes that point in the night when you've completely forgotten what you're supposed to be and oh yeah, where you are... oops.

But then if your lucky you remember your with friends

Congratulating each other on another holiday done right!

PART 2: "I'm A Mouse... DUH."

When the name of the game is RYPE and it's Halloween week and you don't have to work in the morning, oh, and did I mention you have Deadmau5 tickets? Yeah, shit tends to get a little weird... voluntarily though, of course. After an unexpected middle of the week venture out into crazy town we here at RYPE were a little hesitant to go full throttle into the next night, but with tickets to Deadmau5 at the Santa Barbara Bowl (which comes with the promise of many "interesting" and yes, still 5 days early, Halloween costumes) you gotta just roll with the trucks and keep on punching... or something like that. An awkward moment at the entrance when my pair of strobe light flashing mouse ears (a bitchin' investment from last years Hard Haunted Mansion and pretty much the best accessory you could ask for for any occasion!) were denied and threatened to be thrown away, my only alternative was to chuck them over hand into the nearest bush, which I shamelessly took (don't worry, I later hunted for on all fours and recovered them, much to the security gaurds amusement) nothing was to deter us! With a little charm and a good friends connections we were able to turn out seat tickets into pit tickets, fully bringing the night into good (and only slightly dangerous) times, not to mention the best point of view to feast our eyes on all the costume, or lack thereof, amazingness! With the 10 p.m. stop time at the Bowl that can only mean one thing in RYPE Lyfe, two nights in one y'all! After the sweaty, dance party light show of Deadmau5 (a big, juicy high five to Sofi Toufa, who was the badass chick collaborator and to Feed Me, a phenomenal opener) RYPE headed out into the world with the boys of Cyrcle who were in town from L.A. (cyrclebrand.wordpress.com) and really let the holiday spirit take over control (take-take-take over control). A blurry moment or two, a bloody knee, a couple hours of deepok chopra radio on pandora.com, an endless supply of "Cyrcle" stickers later and we out. Good start RYPE, real good start.
Now here's some solid concert going advice, and we here at RYPE aren't ones to just preach it, practice makes perfect!
Always start your night with a double-fist session in the bathroom... (now this could be interpreted a number of ways, but for everyones safety you should probably just stick to concession drinks)

Making new friends is always encouraged!

Double-fisting isn't just for the bathroom! Staying hydrated is a must

Da Mau5 is in da building! Have no shame in the possibility of someone's feeling (or body... whatever) getting hurt for that one good shot! (Totally worth it)
Basically what I'm saying is feel free to double-fist wherever your heart desires, as long as you get the best view, of course

And lastly, but very importantly, never forget to stop for a moment and take it all in.

PART 1: When Life Gives You Oranges, Start Celebrating Halloween 6 Days Early...

...and although you wouldn't necessarily think to put those two things together, after the last week in the RYPE Lyfe things I never thought are starting to make all sorts of sense. It all started last Wednesday afternoon when a friend invited Rype and Co. to a He's My Brother, She's My Sister show at the Soho Music Club, not being too familiar with the band we absolutely adore Soho and almost never pass up an opportunity to go (seeing Sleigh Bells at the venue earlier this year was the beginning of a slight obsession with the club). The only thing we knew for sure about the band was that they had all sorts of steez and trust a Rype when she tells you, we never miss an opportunity to dress up. Bras for tops, suspenders, turbans, bell bottoms to put yo' mama to shame, hats, scarfs and a few Tequila Sunrises in a Starbucks cup later and we were ready to go and outshine the whole damn night! We all clearly underestimated the siblings and their openers, The Mumlers though....
The Sister breaking it down in a major way, what her costume technically was we may never know

Uncontrollable excitement and spontaneous dancing

Brother Bear

Thank God for multi-talented bartenders!

Not afraid to get a lil freaky, go on girl, we don't mind.

Even though He's My Brother, She's My Sister were out of this world and definitely satisfying enough for one night the rumor mills were aswirl with a Deadmau5 appearance downtown (more on him later) and I mean, "It may only be Wednesday, but it's like BASICALLY Halloween... ya know?" Right you are.

A Night To (For The Most Part, Pretty Much, Basically, Sort Of) Remember...

For over the last year I've been to every show the Santa Barbara Bowl has hosted! Well... kind of. Having never actually been to a Bowl show but living just 4 blocks from the outdoor venue gives me the super awesome privilege to hear all the musicians play (and sometimes not so super awesome, Katy Perry 3 nights in a row? Two too many nights, girl!). This last Saturday though my roommate Paola's excitement for the Explosions In The Sky and Death Cab For Cutie concert soon became too infectious to ignore. Despite the fact that I've indie-ed out and seen Death Cab live an inexcusable number of times I knew I had to get in on the screaming... everyone expresses their joy differently Paola , don't feel bad, but maybe save it for the Bieb's next time? Now maybe it's just me, but when I think of Explosions and Death Cab my thoughts immediately go to a mellow pre-show night, keeping it classy with some wine, of course lots of gentle swaying and hand holding. I really just don't know what happened, maybe it was the completely inappropriate leopard print I decided to wear or maybe I just forgot who my dates were, but the RYPE girls do it right, duh. We do the kind of "right" where a shot of Sailor Jerry is how ever much you can fit in your mouth since the bar is the line into the venue and the bar tender is you, water bottle proudly in hand. The sort of "right" where sayings like, "I had to chase my Coke Zero with rum" are totally acceptable because "right" is not a place where Coke Zero is ever a good idea. That silky smooth "right" when a 24 pack of Corona disappears in 6 minutes yet you realize there are only 10 people drinking. That wholesome RYPE kind of "right". Twas a good night with unbelievably beautiful music, a fantastic way to lose my Santa Barbara Bowl virginity and I highly suggest this venue to any and all music lovers, now hopefully I'll spend more concert nights in the crowd rather than in my room! And as always I wouldn't of wanted to be with anyone else then my RYPE minded crew! Sorry to my lovely neighbors for the prefunk (and postfunk, one downfall to the Bowl is the strict 10 p.m. stop time... whoops) noise and maybe next time we'll all call it a night before 3 am hits. But most likely not. See you all in November!

The Beginning To My Everything

"I am going to be a millionaire." This sentence has been my sisters mantra for as long as I can remember and despite my many attempts to deny having any faith in her, deep down I kinda always knew one day it would be true.  My sister prides herself on her single-minded determination to succeed in life and lets face it, the girl could of hit the million dollar mark in personal escort services some time ago (she's definitely not horrible looking, lemme tell ya), but not just having money will do, she wants to earn her keep doing what she loves. The first apartment Rachel and I lived in after leaving our parents house was, in our minds, the hottest shit since Paris Hilton's chihuahua (she was still relevant back then, I swear!). Unfortunately the glamour started to wear off (as well as parts of the linoleum in the kitchen...) and we started to see our cozy new home for the shithole it really was. Rock bottom came one day when the hot water heater, conveniently located in the middle of one of the bedroom closets, started to emit a gas-like smell in the three foot radius around it. Two teenage girls don't really have time to stand around wondering what "that smell" is, we just spritz our JLo body spray and move on with our lives. But the night the smell moved to more of a seven foot radius and me, being the drama queen I am, decided to projectile vomit all over the bathroom as a result of it, was a low. So my sister decided to take action. She immediately called the landlord despite the time of night and even in my delirium I knew that his number was dialed more then once, twice, three times a lady. Early the next morning I awoke to a strange man hauling the water heater out and my sister packing her bags, "We're moving the fuck out.". A week later we were moving into the exclusive Frank Estates townhouses, how she managed to get us out of our lease, into a new one and everything packed and ready to go in just one week is still to this day completely beyond me, but I do know I will never forget the realization that this bitch was going the places she wanted to go... and fast.

So here we go again, just a mere three weeks ago sweet sister o' mine decided she wanted to start a business and thats exactly what she has done. Within the first week she had rented the space, booked the entertainment and artists and finally, right before the weekend, thought up the name. RYPE.events now has it's own website (www.rypeevents.com), it's own Facebook page (LIKE us!) and lots of advertisement including flyers (and yes, shocking, she designed those as well. See her pedaling the pavement to pass them out in a neighborhood near you! And see above for our upcoming event details!). So in honor of RYPE.events we've decided to start a blog on all things we love and believe RYPE stands for, music, art, literature, fashion, philosophy, photography... furniture! You name it! A big cheers to my one and only, Rachel Taylor and all her hard work and dedication! "Won't it be cool when I'm a millionaire and can actually pay you for shit like this??" Oh girl, you have no idea. See you all in November!
